What is starch syrup ?

Liquid starch syrup

Starch can be hydrolyzed into simpler carbohydrates by acids, various enzymes, or a combination of the two. The resulting fragments are known as dextrins. The extent of conversion is typically quantified by dextrose equivalent (DE), which is roughly the fraction of the glucose bonds in starch that have been broken in the glucose syrup production.

These starch syrups are by far the most common starch based food ingredient and are used as sweetener in many drinks and foods. They include:

1. Maltodextrin, a lightly hydrolyzed (DE 10–20) starch product used as a bland-tasting filler and thickener.

2. Various glucose syrups (DE 30–70), also called corn syrups in the US, viscous solutions used as sweeteners and thickeners in many kinds of processed foods.

3. Dextrose (DE 100), commercial glucose, prepared by the complete hydrolysis of starch.

4. High fructose syrup, made by treating dextrose solutions with the enzyme glucose isomerase, until a substantial fraction of the glucose has been converted to fructose. Sweetener fructose is used in processed foods and beverages. Fructose also has better microbiological stability. One kind of high fructose corn syrup, HFCS-55, is sweeter than sucrose because it is made with more fructose, while the sweetness of HFCS-42 is on par with sucrose.

Our company can supply the complete glucose syrup production plant. The glucose syrup production plant can produce glucose syrup from corn or broken rice directly .

How to produce glucose syrup from cassava starch ?

cassava glucose plant
Cassava starch and glucose syrup
Glucose syrup, also known as candy glucose, is a kind sweet syrup made from the hydrolysis of starch. Maize /corn is commonly used as the source of the starch ,so the glucose syrup is called "corn syrup" . But glucose syrup is also made from other kind starch, such as cassava starch in cassava glucose plant

How to produce glucose syrup from cassava starch  ?

The production process of producing glucose syrup from cassava starch in cassava glucose plant is as below :

(1) Starch milk adjustment process in cassava glucose plant
Starch milk coming from starch plant is adjusted to DS28-32% and proper pH and temperature. Or mix the dry starch with water to reach above condition for next section.
(2) Liquefaction process in cassava glucose plant
Starch milk is sent to buffer tank then liquefied by jet cooker with the aid of enzyme.
(3) Saccharification process in cassava glucose plant
The liquefied material is sent to enzyme saccharification tank for reaction. After being kept in holding tube the required DE value of the glucose will be reached. Then the material is sent to flash for cooling then to the neutralization tank for suitable pH value.
(4) Filtration and decoloring process in cassava glucose plant
Glucose is cleaned by removing the protein and other foreign items in rotary vacuum filter and filter press. Active carbon is needed for decoloring at proper temperature.
(5) Ion exchange process in cassava glucose plant
Tiny foreign items and bad odor is removed via ion exchanger. This equipment is used for high quality product.
(6) Evaporation process in cassava glucose plant
The glucose is totally cleaned through safety filter then sent to evaporator for concentrating to reach the required DS as final product.
In the world , almost all the glucose syrup plant use the starch (such as cassava starch ,corn starch or other kind starch)  to produce the glucose syrup . But now our company has the new technology , we can produce the glucose syrup from corn or broken rice directly . The starch is not the only kind raw material to produce glucose  syrup
